- Your total cash value is calculated based on the weight and the daily price of silver.
- A check is mailed to you, or your cash is directly deposited in your bank account if you selected our Quick Cash option.
Make Sure Your Silver Items are Sterling and not Plated
- Look for a stamping (hallmark). If it says “Sterling Silver, 825 or 925” its good. Also, anything marked “999 or 9999” is pure silver.
- If you’re not sure, you can check by scratching an inconspicuous area and see if the silver plating is removed.
How We Test Your Silver
We use a combination of three proven, highly accurate methods to ensure you get the most for your silver.
- Electronic Testing
Your silver is first tested with a state-of-the art electronic testing device. Your items are connected to the device and a few drops of test solution are placed on the test area. The machine quickly and accurately records the silver quality. - Scratch Testing
Scratch testing is one of the oldest and most accurate processes in the industry. By treating a very small area of your item with an acid solution and comparing scratches from testing needles, the tester can confirm the quality of silver in the piece. - X-Ray Fluorescence Testing
If both the electronic testing and scratch methods do not confirm clear results, pieces are subjected to an X-ray fluorescence scan. The machine is a state-of-the-art device capable of providing detailed analysis by measuring the intensity of the generated X-rays by wavelength dispersion analysis. A full report indicates the percentages of silver content as well as other alloying metals such as copper, silver, zinc, etc.
